Due to a fire on the tracks at the West 8th Street station last night, the F train is terminating at Avenue X. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It's unclear when service will be restored, but there are free shuttle buses between the closed stations in the meantime.
Don't try to head down on the Q train instead--that's not running between Brighton Beach and Stillwell Avenue for the same reason.
If you're still interested in getting to the beach today, try the D train, the B68 bus on Coney Island Avenue, or consider walking--it's about 5 miles, and it's a pretty nice day out today!
