Tuesday's CB 12 Meeting *****

Tuesday's CB 12 Meeting *****

A standing-room only crowd at CB 12’s Tuesday meeting brought petitions, its children, and vehement support of Moisha's to the public comments period, which took up almost the entire meeting.  Anna Cali, a year-old board member from the area around 60 and 20 Avenue, struggled valiantly to correct misstatements.  Finally she read from minutes to show that Wolf Sender, the district manager, had publicly told New York City's Industrial Development Agency on February 12 that CB 12 supported  Moisha’s request for a $2 million  tax abatement.  Moisha’s supporters belittled her characterization.  (See today’s Daily News article.)

Two votes at the end, one to table the discussion approving Moisha’s expansion and another in support Moisha’s, ended overwhelmingly in a defeat for those questioning CB 12’s moves. On the vote to table, 10 people voted yes, while 27 voted no. Those in support were Anna Cali, Maggie Tobin, Lily Marinelli, Sandy Aboulafia, Fred Cassera, Joseph Jakobs, Dr. Joan Pastore, Mendel Reiner, Rochelle Zamie, and Mendel Zilberberg.  On the second vote, 29 voted in favor of Moisha’s while 6 abstained. Any discussion of district manager Wolf Sender’s actions will be taken up in a future closed session of the CB 12 board.

The Jewish press claimed anti-semitism, and at the end a board member challenged Anna Cali, claiming she had called the board "corrupt" in a Daily News article.  All told an Oscar-worthy  event.
