There are reports of another attack that could be related to the string of sexual attacks in the area recently. Last night before midnight, police say a woman was groped as she was approaching a building on Vanderbilt Street, but she screamed and fought, and the attacker ran off.
Several neighbors are reporting having seen a heavy police presence over night from East 2nd to East 5th as they conducted their investigation, but Cate notes: "This area had next to NO police presence until tonight--even though there are two dimly lit parks and it's one of the main streets people walk to get to the F/G Ft. Hamilton stop on the other side of the Parkway."
Another woman was attacked, fondled, and robbed in Sunset Park yesterday at about 5:30am, but police do not believe this is related to the other incidents--the man the woman described was Asian, which doesn't fit the descriptions of the other attacks.
Unfortunately, Safe Walk and Right Rides only operate on Friday and Saturday nights (which is awesome, please use them when you can on those nights!), but some neighbors are currently working on organizing dog owners to be available to escort people home from the subway when they're out walking their dogs at night.
