What's happening this week with safety in the neighborhood:
* Over 100 people showed up to the CB7 Safety Meeting on Tuesday, including Jay Ruiz of the Brooklyn Bike Patrol, who the Kensington Prospect says can arrange escorts from places like the desolate Fort Hamilton subway stop (site of an iPhone robbery last night), but he could use some volunteers: call 718-744-7592 or email riocket55j@aol.com.
* People are worried the brutal beating of a Hispanic man on 6th Avenue and 18th Street on Wednesday at 2am was fueled by reports that the suspect or suspects in the string of sexual attacks is Hispanic. The Brooklyn Paper reports that a witness to the beating has been ignored by police.
* Safe Slope, who begins their Safe Walk program tonight, has an open letter to the 72nd and 78th Precincts following a week of police activity that has made some neighbors uncomfortable. Women have complained of officers following them without explanation, or telling them they're dressing too provocatively.
