Watch Out When You're on Your Phone

An announcement on the subway tells us not to display electronics and jewelry, but an account from neighbor Steph reminds us to be careful with those things wherever you are:

Last Thursday (August 4th), I was walking on Cortelyou Road toward the F train at about 8:50 am (talking on my iphone) and a man came up from behind me just before E 5th Street, grabbed my neck, and took my phone from my hand. I didn't get a look at his face, but he was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt when he took off running toward Ocean Parkway. I called the police, but they weren't able to find the guy. I just wanted to let Kensington residents know what happened to me so they can be aware when talking on their cell phones. I was really shocked that it happened during morning rush hour on a relatively busy street.

Someone had a similar story for the Ditmas Park Blog, so just be aware that this seems to be happening more and more, and try to keep your things, and yourself, safe.
