There are so many things that you don't need very often, and then when you need it, you don't know where to find it in the neighborhood. Today we wonder: Where do you find a cake for a birthday or other special occasion?
* Ladybird Bakery (8th Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets) has a huge variety of cakes, and they look great. Stop in early to get one of the cakes available that day (they can sell out early), or pre-order to make sure you get what you want.
* Regina Bakery (485 Prospect Ave at PPW) is an institution with traditional cakes. (FYI: They'll be on vacation for the next two weeks!)
* Of course, the Key Food on Prospect Ave is okay if you're in a pinch, but you'll only find a small selection of Carvel ice cream cakes, or you can grab a box mix, some eggs, and a tub of frosting, and make one yourself!
