Yet Another Attack, Plus Safe Ride Options

Yet Another Attack, Plus Safe Ride Options

In addition to the attack on the subway yesterday, there was also another, separate incident that is more like the 10 previous sexual assaults that have occurred in the area.

Last night at about 9:15pm, police say a woman was groped on Prospect Avenue between 4th and 5th Avenues after just exiting the R subway station, and the suspect ran off. The man forcibly grabbed the woman's breasts, but she did not sustain any injuries, according to the 72nd Precinct.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5-feet 7-inches tall with a thin build, and he was last seen wearing a dark shirt, baggy dark blue jeans, and a baseball hat.

After all the measures the police said they have put in place, it's beyond frustrating that this is still happening. One attack is too many, and 12 requires serious action.

Safe Slope is working to take their own measures for protecting women on the street--they hope to organize a Safe Walk program soon, and they are looking to collaborate with Brooklyn Bike Patrol as well.

In the meantime, the RightRides program is available on Friday and Saturday nights, between 11:59pm and 3am. They offer women, LGBTQ, and gender nonconforming individuals a free, late-night ride home to ensure their safe commute. Call 888-215-SAFE (7233) during those hours if you need a ride.
