1 Dead In Hudson Valley Condo Fire

Authorities said the blaze in Somers began around 4 p.m. and was fully extinguished six hours later.

SOMERS, NY — One person is dead following a horrific fire in the Heritage Hills area of Somers.

The New York State Police said the blaze began around 4 p.m. Wednesday

On arrival, Somers Volunteer Fire Department found a fully engulfed fire, police said.

One person was found dead, police said. The release of more information is pending positive identification of the victim.

In a news release, Somers Fire Chief Jonathan Mackey said the fire at 973 Heritage Hills turned into a second alarm.

Firefighters couldn't initially search the home because of heavy fire conditions.

Mackey said the fire, which was contained to two residential units, was brought under control around 6 p.m. It was fully extinguished just before 11 p.m., with the scene cleared around 11:15 p.m.

Somers was assisted by Croton Falls, Mahopac, Yorktown, Buchanan, Katonah and Mount Kisco fire departments.

The official cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing, officials said.
