12YO Charged With Juvenile Delinquency In Yorktown
For an adult, the charges would have been felonies.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 12-year-old Mohegan Lake boy was arrested after allegedly trying to break into a Lakeland school. Yorktown Police said the child was charged with juvenile delinquency, though the underlying charges were felonies.
Police said they were called about 10 a.m. April 3 to the George Washington Elementary School for a report of a broken window.
A Lakeland school district resource officer and two members of the Yorkown Police responded and reviewed the school’s surveillance system.

The surveillance showed that the child broke a window to the school and made several attempts to break into the school while it was closed.
The child was identified, and officers went to a nearby Lexington Avenue home and spoke to him in the presence of his mother.

He was charged with juvenile delinquency and issued an appearance ticket for him to appear at the Westchester County Department of Probation with his mother April 18.
The child was left at his residence in the custody of his mother.
Had the child been charged as an adult he would have faced third-degree attempted burglary and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies.
