2 Accused Of Stealing, Forging Checks In Yorktown

Authorities said more than $30,000 was stolen from the checks' owner.

YORKTOWN, NY — Two Yorktown men were accused of stealing a woman's checks and illegally depositing them into someone else's account.

Yorktown police said Yosef Brodsky, 35, of Yorktown, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery, felonies.

Todd Woodward, 22, of Yorktown, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, felonies, police said.

According to authorities, shortly after 5 p.m. Oct. 19, Yorktown police received a report of larceny.

Officers met with the woman and started an investigation, which found that between July and September multiple checks belonging to her had been stolen and deposited in someone else's account without her knowledge, police said.

More than $30,000 was stolen from the woman, authorities said.

After several weeks of investigation, Brodsky and Woodward were identified and arrested.

Police said Brodsky stole the check and forged the woman's signature on them, and Woodward took the checks and deposited them into an account.

They were arraigned, after which the judge issued temporary orders of protection to both men on behalf of the victim.

Brodsky and Woodward were released on their own recognizance and are due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Jan. 14.
