2017 National Merit Scholarships: 24 Hudson Valley College-Sponsored Winners

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — More than 3,200 winners of National Merit Scholarships — financed by U.S. college and universities — were announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Wednesday. Of those, 24 students were from the Hudson Valley. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

College-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners announced Wednesday are part of about 7,500 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth more than $32 million.

More than 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship competition when they took the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

An additional group of scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2017 competition to approximately 4,000.
