American Legion Memorial Day Weekend Programs in Yorktown
Join the American Legion this weekend for: Flag Decoration, Selling of Poppies, the Yorktown Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies

From the American Legion:
Flag Decoration
Each year the American Legion Post 1009, in concert with the local Boy Scouts, decorate the graves of “known’ Veterans in our local cemeteries. Legionnaire John McQuillan organizes and manages this program. There about 500 graves decorated with American flags The Schedule for Flag Decoration is:
- Friday May 27, Flag Decoration at Amawalk Cemetery
Public and helpers to meet at 6:30 pm at the American Legion

Sale of Poppies
Saturday, May 28, 2016 – a major fundraiser for the American Legion - Post 1009. Remember a loved one and help the Legion help Veterans. Poppies will be on sales at 3 locations in Yorktown between 9:00 am - 1:00 pm:

Memorial Day Parade & Ceremonies
11:00 am - Service at Memorials located at Town Hall
11:15 am - Parade, speeches and ceremony at John "Jack" DeVito Gazebo located at the Yorktown Community & Cultural Center.

Following the speeches at the Veterans Memorial Park, free hot dogs and water will be served at the American Legion Post 1009 by the Lions Club and Legion members.
American Legion Post 1009 – Veterans Commemorative Park
Also following the speeches at the Gazebo, the American Legion will conduct a brief dedication ceremony for the newly installed Veterans Commemorative Bricks which are sold exclusively to raise money for Veterans and their families. This year 61 new commemorative bricks have been installed bringing our total bricks in the Park to 450. Commemorative Brick purchasers also receive a beautiful certificate in memory of their loved one, living or deceased. For further information, call John Gunn at 914-455-0096.
