YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY — There's a reason that the Yorktown Grange Fair has been one of the most popular events in the Hudson Valley for more than a century.
If you don't know why, then maybe it's time to go see for yourself.
The 102nd annual Yorktown Grange Fair will return to Yorktown Heights for three days starting Sept. 11, bringing contests, live music, hayrides and family activities to the fairgrounds on Moseman Road.
Attendees can expect blue ribbon contests, educational exhibits and artisan vendors during the three-day event. Audience participation contests will include watermelon eating, rubber chicken throwing, pie eating and bubble gum blowing. The Mile-Long Tractor Parade is scheduled for noon on Saturday, and hayrides are also returning.
The fair will again include quiet hours for people with special needs. Those hours are set for 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Live music is scheduled throughout the weekend on the main stage. The lineup includes the Mike Risko Band performing rock and pop favorites at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, country band Whiskey's Edge is set for 3:30 p.m., followed by rock band Alex Nikki and Jokerz Wild at 8 p.m. On Sunday, No Options is scheduled to perform at 4 p.m.
Children's programming is also planned across the weekend. Kurt Gallagher's Songs for Playful Children is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wacky Chad's interactive stunt shows are set for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, and 1:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
Other family attractions will include horse riding demonstrations and animals visitors can see up close. Fairgoers can also meet the fair mascot, Belle the goat.
The fair will be held at the Yorktown Grange Fairgrounds, 99 Moseman Road, Yorktown Heights. Hours are 4 to 11 p.m. on Sept. 11, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sept. 12, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 13. Admission is $15 per carload.
