Another Bear Sighting In Northern Westchester Monday
Residents were urged by police to secure their garbage cans.

YORKTOWN, NY — Another bear sighting occurred in Yorktown Monday. Police issued an alert message around 11 a.m. that a bear was seen on Baldwin Road in the area of French Hill Elementary School. Police urged residents to secure their garbage cans.
Over the previous weekend, there were sighting on Saturday and Sunday.
Around 11 a.m. Saturday a black bear was seen along Route 202 near BJ’s.

Then on Sunday around 10:30 a.m. a bear was sighted on Vista Court off Route 202. Police said it was chased up a tree by a dog.

According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, if you encounter a bear, never approach, surround or corner it. Bears aggressively defend themselves when they feel threatened.

You should never run from a bear. The DEC said to stay calm, speak in a loud and calm voice, slowly back away and leave the area.
