Are Age Limits For Trick-Or-Treating A Good Idea? [POLL]

A few communities penalize children over a certain age if they go out trick-or-treating. Would you be in favor of that?

How old is too old to go trick-or-treating? One city in Virginia has a law on its books that limits the age of costumed candy seekers to no older than 12. Plus the cut off time for trick-or-treating is 8 p.m.

Chesapeake, Virginia, enacted an ordinance that said anyone over the age of 12 who goes out trick-or-treating is guilty of a misdemeanor and will be punished by a fine ranging from $25 to $100, littlethings.com said. They can also be put in jail for up to six months, with or without a fine.

Many communities have curfews, enacted out of safety concerns, but hard and fast age limits are not that common.

One television reporter at WFSB Channel 3 in Manchester, Connecticut, asked a child psychologist about the appropriate age for giving up the trick-or-treat goodie bag.

Dr. Laura Sanders said she thought that if someone is just going out to get free candy and is not willing to put on a costume, then that's probably too old for trick-or-treating.

On Long Island, Garden City Police Commissioner Kenneth Jackson, along with AAA Northeast, said that parents should probably impose curfews that are appropriate for the whatever age group their children are in.
