Bathroom Comment At Somers High Investigated

SOMERS, NY — A comment made in a Somer High School boys bathroom was investigated by the county police Monday. An email to parents of high school students by Superintendent Dr. Raymond H. Blanch said that a number of students were waiting to use the boys bathroom when two students banged on a stall door.

The student in the stall responded by quoting a possible line from a movie, which was, according to Blanch, something to the effect of "I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it."

Blanch said the incident was immediately investigated and the high school's Threat Assessment Team was convened.

The team and the Westchester Count Police determined that it was not a credible threat.

Blanch said the district recently established a threat assessment protocol that includes interviews by the school resource officer and administrators to systematically assess the risk associated with such incidents.

He said he wanted to make the public aware of what had occurred and to assure them that all potential threats are taken seriously.
