Ben Franklin ES kindergarteners Learn About Kindness

Kindness is the theme this year at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
To kick off the initiative, Principal Patricia Moore and Assistant Principal Tracy Mecca have been reading the book “Kindness is Cooler, Mrs. Ruler” by Margery Cuyler to the kindergarten students. “The book emphasizes the importance of kindness and a kind smile can go a mile,” said Moore. The BFES PTA is spreading kindness to the school by donating the book to every classroom and will donate the second book, in January, “You, Me and Empathy” by Jayneen Sanders.
If a student demonstrates an act of kindness their photo is taken and added to the school’s ‘Kindness is Cool’ bulletin board along with their act of kindness, explained Moore. The board will eventually burst with an array of school, home and community acts of kindness.

Kindness activities are planned throughout the year. These activities will tie into the Annual Lakeland Kindness Awareness Day in May 2019. “Don’t forget Mrs. Ruler’s golden rule, 'Kindness Is Cooler',” added Mecca.
