YORKTOWN, NY — Many senior students in the Hudson Valley were expecting to celebrate their final year with prom, graduation, and other milestone events. However, the new coronavirus crisis has meant that dreams and long-awaited celebrations have been put on hold.

Patch would like to shine a light on these amazing young people and their accomplishments; a new series "Celebrate Your Senior," inviting proud parents and others to spotlight the young people whose accomplishments can't be derailed by the pandemic.

Michelle Soliz nominated Hailey Soliz, a senior at Yorktown High School.

Here's what the proud mom had to say about her daughter:

"Hailey is a four year varsity soccer starter who just finished a long tough year recovering from ACL surgery & rehab. Now to have her senior year cut short in the midst of a pandemic is nothing short of tragic. The typical rites of passage like Prom, graduation and those final days of making high school memories are now fading away if they will happen at all. However, even with all she has dealt with in the last year, Hailey never allows herself to feel defeated in difficult situations but instead accepts it and works through it with her upbeat nature, positive attitude. Her motivation has been truly inspiring proving you can get through anything with the right attitude. We are so proud of her strong will and determination and know she will continue to do great things! She is excited to start college this Fall at SUNY Cortland as a Criminology major."
