Coffee Maker Almost Causes Blaze In Yorktown Home

No one was home when firefighters arrived.

YORKTOWN, NY — A coffee maker left on a hot stove could have burned down a Yorktown home had firefighters not been alerted by a residential alarm. When the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department got to a Gomer Street home around 11 a.m. Wednesday, there was no visible fire from the outside.

However, smoke alarms could be heard coming from the inside, the Daily Voice said. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

The residents, who were not at home, had left coffee maker on the stove and it melted and began to catch fire.
