Cooling Centers Open In Yorktown
Daytime highs in northern Westchester County are predicted to reach the mid-90s through Friday.
YORKTOWN, NY — With ongoing dangerously high heat and humidity, cooling centers in Yorktown will be open, town officials said.
The Jefferson Valley Mall, John C. Hart Memorial Library and St. Mary's Church in Mohegan Lake are open as places were people can find some relief from the extreme heat.
Yorktown is under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Thursday. There is an excessive heat watch in effect ffrom 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

In the Hart Library, visitors will be required to wear a face mask. The library will be open until 8 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday.

The Jefferson Valley Mall will be open until 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday.
St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1836 East Main St. in Mohegan Lake, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Supervisor Matt Slater said these are great, socially distant locations where our neighbors can get temporary relief from the heat.
"I encourage anyone who needs a break from the heat to visit these venues and to respect their rules," he said.
Town officials said, in the event of a power outage, an emergency cooling center at the Albert A. Capellini Community and Cultural Center will allow residents to spend the night.
