Dad Gets Arrested For DWI After Dropping Kids At School: PD

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yorktown father was accused of driving his children to school after he had been drinking. Yorktown police said, around 9 a.m. Oct. 4, a school resource officer at the George Washington Elementary School was told by a staff member that a man had just dropped his two daughters off at the school and that he appeared to be intoxicated.

The SRO stopped the man as he was driving out of the parking lot. He was identified as Thomas D. Fazio, 34, of Yorktown, police said.

Another officer arrived and an investigation was started.

Police said Fazio was driving in an intoxicated condition with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.18 percent while his 5- and 6-year-old daughters were in the car.

Authorities also said that Fazio gave a fake name to the officers even after being told the consequences for doing so.

He was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department for processing. While in custody, police said he was found to have active bench warrants from the Yorktown Justice Court.

Fazio was charged with the following:

• DWI, first offense, a misdemeanor
• Aggravated DWI with blood-alcohol content 0.18 percent or more, a misdemeanor
• Two counts of aggravated DWI with a chid in the car, first offense, felonies
• Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors
• False personation, a misdemeanor
• Arrest warrant for failure to appear, underlying charges of DWI, first offense, a misdemeanor, and refusal to take a breath test, a traffic infraction
• Arrest warrant for failure to appear, underlying charge of second-degree harassment, a violation

Fazio was unable to post $10,000 bail or bond and was sent to the Westchester County Jail.

He is due to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Oct. 17.
