About the artist: Adrienne Werle-Austermann grew up in Yorktown Heights, NY. After graduating from The School of Visual Arts in NYC, she worked as a Senior Art Director for advertising firm FCB/ LKP in NYC. Her first solo show was in 1996 in Danbury, CT.

Werle-Austermann's work has crossed all artistic disciplines from photography to screenwriting in pursuit of ways to express the irony and dichotomy of life. She currently works in Fairfield County CT, and resides in Bethel with her two children and an incessant desire to create.

The Graven Image series is inspired by 17th and 18th century New England gravestone carvings. The images are both structurally simple and emotionally complex. Images that where once iconic and austere, are now brought back to life, and juxtaposed with emotion and color. The faces engage the viewer, inviting them to confront their personal inner conflicts and inevitable mortality.
