Household Material Recovery Day

Bring your household chemicals, medications (please bring in original bottle), old electronics,appliances and more for proper disposal.  There will also be a paper shredder truck available for confidential personal paper shredding.

What to bring: (for a detailed list click here)

  • Household Chemicals: automotive fluids, flammable liquids, polishes and waxes, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, pool chemicals
  • Batteries - vehicle, rechargeable and button cell only
  • Cell phones
  • Expired or unused medication - Rx or OTC
  • Car tires - max. 10 tires per household
  • Flourescent light bulbs
  • Fire extinguishers
  • BBQ propane tanks (up to 20 lbs)
  • Mercury containing items
  • Electronic goods - TVs, computer monitors and towers, printers and accessories
  • Household appliances with Freon - AC units, refrigerators, dehumidifiers
  • Personal papers for shredding - limit four file-size boxes per household

Items NOT ACCEPTED:

  • Non-rechargeable batteries - throw AAA, AA, C and D and other disposable batteries in the trash
  • Motor oil – take to a service station or motor oil store
  • Smoke detectors – throw in the trash
  • Hypodermic needles – place them in puncture-proof containers and throw in the trash

The next material recovery day is sceduled for September 24 in Yonkers. In the fall, a permanent facility will be opening in the Valhalla area for on-going drop-offs.
