Rock Concert Benefit for The Bowery Mission

Rock Concert Benefit for The Bowery Mission
Curated by The Deafening Colors

An evening of eclectic rock music at The Delancey in Manhattan will benefit The Bowery Mission, an organization that provides the homeless with shelter, clothing, doctor’s appointments, and recovery programs.

Admission will cost $7 at the door, and all the bands have pledged to donate 100% of their proceeds (100% of the door money after the first 10 tickets sold per band) to the charity. A portion of the liquor sales, as long as a certain reserve is met, will also be donated to the charity.

The Bowery Mission’s Young Philanthropists will be on hand to provide guests with information, ask questions, and to accept donations. A winter clothing drive will also be held, so, if those coming to the show have unneeded gently worn winter-wear, including coats, hats, and gloves, they are strongly encouraged to bring and donate them at the concert.

About the Charity

The Bowery Mission serves New York’s hungry and homeless 365 days a year, as they have since 1879. They provide each meal, each night of shelter, each shower, each piece of clothing, and each free doctor’s appointment as an invitation to participate in its residential recovery programs, where lives are transformed from poverty to joy, from hopelessness to hope and from dependency to lasting productivity.

About the Bands

With a bassist who was raised on punk music, a drummer who grew up with shoegaze, and three guitarists who at any time can be found listening to anything from Miles Davis to Sonic Youth, The Deafening Colors are a Morristown, New Jersey based band that loves New Jersey but hates Bruce Springsteen and jughandles.

Neon Dynamite is a party band based out of Bushwick, Brooklyn that formed in May 2010. They are influenced by positive energy and good times. Their mission is simple: to compel Mother Earth to dance. They get down. You should too.

Talkboy is a new project by a member of Alien Father, an avant-garde punk group from Mercer County, New Jersey.

The Buffalo Analog produces original, creepy, outer space hip-hop. Whether playing with live instruments or DJing, they are known to play an unpredictable and eclectic mix, ranging from old-school hip-hop to world music to psych-funk or grimy dub step.

The Times epitomizes modern music. They blur the lines between genres. They take their favorite elements from all different types of music to create something new. And they do it with soul, a smile and a sense of humor.

Hyawatha is a raw and honest sound from Jersey. After going their separate ways in college, four friends came back to Jersey and realized the only thing that made sense anymore was making music. Hyawatha has faced the uncertainties of every great band, the discouragement of family members, washing dishes in nursing homes and being kicked out of every practice space available. Everything Hyawatha does is DIY, from their own home-down recordings to the artwork and the music.

Hannibal Montana are a Post-Rock trio of multi-instrumentalists from New York. All music is composed collectively by Ben Backus, Lucas Brode and Eric Castillo.
