Yorktown High School Presents "Cabaret"

The community is welcome to enjoy this year’s Yorktown High School musical, “Cabaret” on March 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m.  According to director Tom Arduini, “I chose ‘Cabaret’ because it is a classic show, funny and true to the creator’s vision as a traditional Broadway musical.  The revival and film versions are dark, but this version focuses on relationships and life in Berlin on the eve of the ascension of the Nazi party as told through a cabaret show.  The lives of two couples and the effects of political change are told here.” The book is by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Under the direction of Ms. Nancy Torrente and Edward Reisert, high school students have the opportunity to perform with a professional pit band.  Bernard Monroe, the professional choreographer and director who has previously won two Helen Hayes awards for choreography, has been working with students every day after school through a BOCES Art in Education grant. He previously choreographed the YHS productions of “Little Me,” “Li’l Abner,” “Grease” and “Carnival.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the performances at the Yorktown High School auditorium.  Tickets are $10.00.  Please call 243-8050 ext. 1 during the school day, or via an order form on the high school Web site.  Tickets will also be available at the door within an hour before each performance.
