Fire in Somers Home Likely Caused By Cigarette

A smoldering mulch fire was outside the home.

SOMERS, NY — The cause of a fire in a single-story Somers home on Lake Road Thursday was likely a cigarette.

The Somers Volunteer Fire Department said there was smoke in the basement when they arrived on the scene, according to information on the department’s Facebook page.

Fire officials said the ceilings and walls had to be opened up to locate the fire.

Outside of the house was a smoldering mulch fire against the structure.

The preliminary cause was a discarded cigarette butt, fire officials said.
