Forest Rangers Rescue Injured Ice Climber From Gorge
The injured man was on his way to the hospital in a little more than an hour.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 64-year-old Yorktown Heights man had to be rescued Wednesday after he injured his leg climbing ice in a gorge.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation said its central dispatch received the report about the man around noon from the Platte Clove area of the town of Hunter in Greene County.
A team of forest rangers was sent to help the injured man, along with local agencies.

The climber was evaluated by a medical professional who happened to be in the area and fire professionals.
According to the DEC, a forest ranger went down into the gorge to provide more first aid and help get the injured man into a litter.

Another forest ranger rigged a high-angle rescue system to haul the climber out of the gorge.
The injured man was carried out to the road and taken by ambulance to a local hospital around 4:15 p.m. for additional medical treatment.
