Free Tick Removers At PhysicianOne Urgent Care
Two urgent care locations in northern Westchester will be giving them out while supplies last.

YORKTOWN, NY — It’s already tick season because it takes only 48 hours of above-freezing temperature for ticks to become active. So for this tick season, PhysicianOne Urgent Care, with locations in Mohegan Lake and Somers, will be giving out Original Tick Key tick removers from Thursday, May 10 through Sunday, May 13, while supplies last.
Medical experts said ticks can carrya range of diseases, including Lyme disease, that are harmful to humans. So, they said it’s important to check yourself and your family, including any pets, for ticks after any time spent outdoors and to remove any ticks as soon as possible.
“With the slight rise in temperature after a long winter, we all want to be outdoors. Whether you’re hiking, doing yard work, or spending any time at all in grassy or wooded areas, be sure to check yourself for ticks,” says Dr. Jeannie Kenkare, Chief Medical Officer and co-founder of PhysicianOne Urgent Care.

You can reduce your risk of being bitten by a tick and being exposed to a tick-borne illness by using insect repellent and wearing long sleeves and long pants tucked into socks when walking through wooded areas. If you are bitten by a tick, removing the tick within 24-hours will greatly reduce your risk of getting Lyme disease. Therefore, performing daily tick checks is important so a tick can be removed before it transmits Lyme disease.
