Address: Yorktown Heights but can serve clients within a 25 mile radius

How did you come up with the name?
My name is Gennifer and many people comment on how much they like my energy and wish they were as happy/relaxed as I am. When I completed my Reiki Healing Energy master program and began thinking of a name, I realized Genergy would communicate how I add my energy into this healing energy experience.

Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
I live in Yorktown. When I was seeking Reiki healing for myself I had to travel to Irvington to the RiverSpa. I wanted to bring this to my community (Yorktown) so I can help my community heal from illness, find ways to relieve anxiety, stress, depression, help women with fertility issues or post-partum. Mostly, I'm interested in offering Reiki to teens and kids and teaching them how to empower themselves with it.

Briefly, what business are you in?
Reiki Energy Healing and Coaching

What's the most difficult moment or challenge you've faced as a business owner?
The fear of failing.

Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
Yes my own battle between what my brain suggests vs what my heart and gut insist. When I follow my heart and gut, it all works out well. When my brain gets involved, I start to worry about "what ifs." So I do Reiki on myself and stick with what I believe in my soul ;)

What's been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
Receiving a text from a client about how life changing our session was and knowing she was on a more positive road than before.

What's the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
Creating a prayer/wish card that is fully-charged with healing Reiki energy. The card can be used by the cilent after they leave to help heal any situations in the past or future as well as present. One client uses it on her commute to send her kids good vibes at school each day.

How do you deal with difficult customers?
I've been in corporate America for over 20 years and took many courses in dealing with difficult customers.  Everyone has their own workstyle and stress style and I'm aware of each type and how to get them to a happy place. It's not a one size fits all answer unfortunately but I'd say the most important thing is to consider what they are carrying with them, have compassion, acknowledge their feelings and then

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
I'm doing a Reiki for Relay 3-day event May 10, May 31 and June 8 where 100% of the proceeds will go to Relay for Life Yorktown. I am volunteering at the Yorktown Teen Center and hope to bring some of my program to help teens learn how to manage anxiety as well as empower them through an internship program. I'm open to bringing my services to many local fundraising events, schools, senior centers and anything else where I can of help.

The plan behind this series at Patch is to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

This is as much about supporting local businesses as it is about celebrating the places and faces that make our community special.
