Heat Advisory Added to July 19 Air Quality Alert
We tell you when it'll feel like it's above 100 degrees in Yorktown and Somers.

For Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the National Weather Service has issued:
- Heat Advisory in effect from July 19, 12:00 PM EDT until July 19, 06:00 PM EDT
- Air Quality Alert
- Hazardous Weather Outlook
The Hazardous Weather Outlook is really about the Heat Advisory. The Air Quality Alert is about high levels of ground-level ozone: a particular problem for children, the elderly, anyone with respiratory problems or poor immune systems.
“ HEAT INDEX VALUES...UP TO 102,” says the NWS. “Prolonged exposure will result in heat exhaustion or heat stroke.”

A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it’s 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours. To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in shade or air-conditioning. Move anyone overcome by heat to a cool place out of the sun.
