Joseph F. Marcella Of Somers Dies At 92

Marcella worked for 20 years at Reader's Digest.

SOMERS, NY — Joseph F. Marcella passed away in Somers, NY, on June 6, 2017, at the age of 92. He was born in 1925, and was raised in Ossining, NY, graduating from Ossining High School in 1943. During World War II, he worked as a Production Foreman at Eastern Aircraft in Tarrytown, NY, where he met Violet Borbely. They were married in 1945 and celebrated 65 years together before she predeceased him in 2010. They lived in Hawthorne, NY, before moving to Somers in 1961. Together they raised five children: Joseph, J., Edward, Nancy See, James and Thomas. He is also survived by one grandson, Anthony.

Mr. Marcella worked in residential construction during the 1950’s, becoming a Union Electrician (Local #501) and Supervisor for Hammond Electric in Mt. Kisco, NY. In 1965, he joined Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, NY, as their Facility Manager, a title he held until his retirement in 1985.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed the outdoors, walking, skiing, flying and had the passion to become an accomplished golfer and inventor.

Calling hours are Friday, June 9, 2017, 7 – 9pm, at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The Service and Interment will be Saturday, June 10, 2017, 11am, graveside at Ivandell Cemetery in Somers.
