Lakeland Field Hockey Wins State Championship
On Sunday (Nov. 16) Lakeland High School Won their Sixth Straight Class B New York State Field Hockey Championship

The Lakeland High School Field Hockey team won their sixth consecutive, and 9th overall, New York State Championship on Sunday (Nov. 16) with a 3-1 victory over Long Island’s Garden City. Lakeland finishes undefeated with a 22-0 record.
Lakeland defeated Vestal High School on Saturday in the semifinals.
Lakeland’s was facing a familiar opponent in today’s championship game. Garden City (17-1) of Long Island, had lost previously to the Hornets in last year’s Southeast Regional, the 2009 semifinals, and the 2010 and 2011 finals.
Goals were scored with 25:32 left in 1st half, when Emily Power finished a rebound off of shot from Brianna Muniz for a 1-0 lead. Garden City scored almost immediately less than minute later to tie it at 1-1 when Michaela Bruno dribbled across the middle and scored.

Lakeland got the lead back with 15:54 left in 1st half. as Molly Fitzpatrick tipped it in after a shot by Valerie Perkins..
With 15:43 left, Fitzpatrick got to her own rebound and scored to give the Hornets an important insurance goal.

Dana Bozek, Brianna Muniz, and goalie Alex Halpin were named to the all-Tournament team.
