Lakeland HS Field Hockey Wins 8th Straight New York State Championship
Lakeland High School won their 8th straight NYS Field Hockey championship on Sunday (Nov. 13) defeating Garden City HS 1-0.
Lakeland High School won their 8th straight NYS Field Hockey championship on Sunday (Nov. 13) defeating Garden City HS 1-0. Both games were decided by identical 1-0 scores. It is Lakeland's 11th state title all under Coach Sharon Sarsen.
Cameron Lischinsky scored the lone goal with 5:37 left in the first half off an assist from defensive standout Mia Lennon. Lischinsky's goal was the game winner as well on Saturday in the state semifinal versus Iroquois HS.
On Sunday, Lakeland out shot Garden City 7-2 and had five corners to their two. Goalie Cassie Halpin made two saves for the Hornets, all in the first half. They then withstood a final corner given to Garden City after the game time had expired.

This year's championship games were dominated by Lakeland's defense. On Sunday, Lakeland's defense continually stopped Garden City from getting anything going on offense as the game came down to a defensive battle on both sides.
Lennon was named to the All-Tournament Team along with fellow senior Cali Cortese and junior Kelsey McCrudden.
