Letter to the Editor: Yorktown's Taj Mahal

The writer dislikes the town supervisor's plans to relocate the highway garage and sell the Front Street property to a developer.

Supervisor Michael Grace’s push for a big money urban renewal project is like a used car salesman trying to fill his quota on the last day of the month. The price to Yorktown taxpayers is currently unknown. It could range anywhere from $2,000,000 to $4,800,000 depending if you listen to Grace or his opponents.

Grace is long on vision but short on details.

If NY State doesn’t approve Grace’s Revitalization Grant the cost to taxpayers will no doubt be closer to $4,800,000.

Right now, Grace’s only speed bumps in fast tracking his obsession are Council Members Patel and Siegel. Both have consistently looked out for the interest of taxpayers and pushed hard against Emperor Grace’s one-person rule. Council Members Bernard and Diana appear to be just Yes Men and serve as rubber stamps for Grace. Like court jesters, their sole purpose is to poke fun at Siegel and mock Patel at every Board Meeting. If you don’t like the message simply attack the messenger. Siegel will leave in January.

I’m afraid if Grace gets his way, most decisions will be made in closed work sessions with little input from the public. We may never know what’s exactly in the secret sauce that makes up Grace’s vision for Yorktown. All I am sure of is that Taxpayers will be left to foot the bill.

Can Supervisor Grace answer why he so set on building a Taj Mahal when so many roads and bridges are falling apart?
