Nanny Accused Of Leaving Child Alone In Car

Police were able to get quickly into the car and rescue the toddler.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 25-year-old nanny was arrested after she left a toddler alone in a car while she went into a drugstore. Yorktown Police said Allison L. Cortland, 25, of Kings Court in Mohegan Lake, was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor.

On Nov. 9, around 12:24 p.m., police received a 911 call about a young child left unattended in a car in the CVS parking lot at 2000 Commerce St.

Police arrived and found an 18-month-old child alone in the car.

Officers were able to unlock the car through an open window and got the child, who was crying but unharmed, out.

A few minutes later police located Cortland, the child’s nanny, and determined that she had left the baby alone in the vehicle for about 11 minutes while she was inside CVS shopping, police said.

Cortland was arrested and taken to Yorktown Police Headquarters. The child was turned over to her mother.

Cortland was arraigned and a temporary order of protection was issued.

Her bail was set at $250.

She was bailed out and is scheduled to reappear in Yorktown Justice Court Nov. 30.
