New Rochelle Man Stole Used Cooking Oil From Yorktown Popeye's: Police
The slippery theft took place in May 2023, but he was finally captured in Mamaroneck on Sunday, after a traffic stop.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown police say they arrested of a 40-year-old New Rochelle resident for an illegal after hours takeaway.
On May 18, 2023, around 3:30 a.m., a Yorktown patrol officer saw a suspicious van parked in the Popeye's restaurant lot. The officer saw two men possibly stealing used cooking oil from a container. After the patrol officer investigated the scene and identified the men, one of whom was the New Rochelle resident, they were released (due to there being no complainant at that time).
An arrest warrant was applied for and received the following month, alleging the New Rochelle man, identified as Rene E. Valerio, stole used cooking oil. This information was shared with local police agencies.

On Sunday, Yorktown police were notified by Village of Mamaroneck police that they had stopped Valerio on a traffic stop and were detaining him based upon the arrest warrant.
Around 3:30 a.m., two Yorktown police officers went to the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department to take custody of Valerio and take him back him to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.

Valerio was arrested and charged with misdemeanor petit larceny. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in Yorktown Justice Court on October 24.
