Northern Westchester Hospital Ranked a Best Regional Hospital

Northern Westchester Hospital was ranked the top regional hospital in Westchester County according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-21 Best Hospital rankings of 210 hospitals in New York. Northern Westchester Hospital ranked number 15–up from number 16 last year–among New York City-area hospitals.

NWH received a dozen high performing ratings in four adult specialties and eight procedures/conditions in the following areas: Orthopedics; Stroke; Geriatrics; Pneumonia; COPD; Neurology and Neurosurgery; Kidney Failure; Hip Fracture: Heart Failure; Spinal Fusion; Pulmonology and Lung Surgery; and Lung Cancer Surgery. A rating of high performing indicates a hospital was significantly better than the national average in a given procedure or condition.

To be considered among U.S. News & World Report’s best regional hospitals, a hospital must offer a full range of general medical and surgical services, and have six or more ratings of “high performing” in the Best Hospital procedures and conditions. Nationwide, just 531 hospitals were identified as Best Regional Hospitals, compared with 563 last year.

Four Northwell Health hospitals received top-50 national ratings in 18 adult medical specialties in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-21 Best Hospital rankings. Three of those hospitals – North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park and Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan – rate among the top 10 hospitals in the New York metropolitan area and the entire state, according to U.S. News’ analysis of more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide.
