Pet Rescue Owner Accused Of Stealing From Nonprofit
Authorities said the woman spent more than $17,000 taken from the organization on herself.
MOHEGAN LAKE, NY — A Mohegan Lake woman was accused of stealing from her nonprofit pet rescue organization.
The SPCA Westchester announced Thursday that it Humane Law Enforcement Unit arrested and charged Lisa Marie Birdsall, 55, with grand larceny Tuesday.
Authorities said Birdsall stole more than $17,000 from Recycled Paws Rescue Inc., a nonprofit dog rescue organization from Jan. 5, 2020, to Dec. 31.

She did not have permission or the authority to take the funds, SPCA Westchester officials said, and spent the money for her own personal purposes.
The arrest was made by the Humane Law Enforcement Unit, under the direction of Ernest Lungaro and in a joint investigation with the Economic Crimes Bureau of the Westchester District Attorney’s Office.

Birdsall's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 3.
According to Recycled Paws Rescue's website, the organization, which is located on East Main Street in Mohegan Lake, rescues dogs from around the world. Its stated goal is to provide every rescued dog with a forever home.
