Police Blotter: Violent Thieves Caught, Man Robs a Jewelry Store, Teens Caught Smoking Marijuana

A round up of police activity from June 18- June 24: Marijuana spoking teens, violent thieves, loud child' birthday party, armed man robs a jewelry store.

June 18

7:20 a.m. Gregory M. Bellamy, 19, of Willoway Street in Yorktown Heights, voluntarily responded to the Yorktown Police Department, where he was arrested on a robbery charge, third degree robbery, a class "D" felony. It is alleged that Bellamy punched the victim in the face and stole $30 from the victim's wallet on June 17, 2010 in the 7-11 parking lot. Bellamy was arraigned in court and released after posting $2,500 bail.

2:20 p.m. Police arrested Melody Rivera, 28, and Veronica Palaez, 23, both of the Bronx, on petit larceny charges, a class "A" misdemeanor. According to police the two women allegedly exited Sears without attempting to pay for shoes, clothing and perfume valued at a total $159.95. Both Rivera and Palaez were released on $250 bail and are due in town court on July 15.

9 p.m. Police arrested 17-year-old Tahj Simmons, of Oakside Road in Yorktown Heights, and two other males, 14 and 15 years old, of Cortlandt Manor, whose names are being withheld due to their age. The three suspects allegedly forcibly stole $320 from a victim at 720 Lee Rd. They were located and arrested by plainclothes officers who were patrolling in the area. Simmons was arraigned in court and released on $1,000 bail. He is due in court on June 24. The 14 year-old and 15-year-old males appeared in Family Court on June 21.  

11:34 p.m. Police report the arrest of an 18-year-old Yorktown resident, whose name is being withheld due to his possible eligibility for youthful offender status, with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Officer Timothy Kolkmann was on routine patrol when he saw two subjects in the Gazebo of the Jack Devito Memorial Park, when he observed the male resident was in possession of marijuana. The defendant was processed the police headquarters and released without bail. He is due in court on July 15.

June 19

2:10 p.m. A Jennifer Court resident reported that a neighbor behind her home was cutting down numerous trees possibly in violation of the Town Code. Upon investigation, it was determined there was no violation. The neighbor was taking out tree stump grinders.

8:54 p.m. Residents report loud music coming from a house on East Main Street, between Oceola Street and Rt. 6N. Upon arrival Officers Grieve and Dillon determined it was a child's birthday. There were no violations.

9:38 p.m. Police received reports that a group of youths were setting off fireworks in the Lakeland High School parking lot. Upon arrival, police officers report no youths in the lot. Everything was quiet.

11:43 p.m. Police received a call that there was loud music coming from the parking lot of Lakeland Liquors, 955 East Main Street. Police checked the area and did not find anything. Then, police received another call stating that the noise was coming the store.

June 20

6:30 a.m. Police arrested 17-year-old Mohegan Lake resident, whose name is being withheld due to his eligibility for youthful offender status on the following charges: Fail to Comply (traffic infraction), Speed in Zone (traffic infraction), Pass steady red light signal (traffic infraction), Pass Stop Sign (traffic infraction), and Fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd (misdemeanor). Officer Peters was conducting radar on Rt. 6 between Mountain Brook Road and Sunnyside Avenue, when allegedly he observed the subject driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed, 109 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. While attempting to stop the vehicle, the motorcycle passed a steady red light as it made a left turn onto Hill Blvd ad then passed a stop sign at the intersection of Hill Blvd and East Main Street. That's when the operator lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. An ambulance arrived at the scene and the subject was transported to the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for minor injuries. He is due in court on June 29.

7:54 a.m. Police received a call that a woman's car, Jeep, was on fire on Moseman Road. The fire was electrical in nature. There were no injuries. The car owner extinguished the fire upon police arrival.

11:02 a.m. Police received a call that a vehicle had struck a building at 82 Molly Pitcher Lane. The elderly male, in his 80s, was driving through the parking lot of his condominium complex, but by mistake he stepped on accelerator. Police report no injuries. There were minor damages to the interior and exterior of the house.

12:18 p.m. Police report that a blue Honda Civic dropped off an intoxicated person at the Mobil Gas Station. The person was conscious and alert but could not walk without stumbling.

8:11 p.m. Officers Sage and Nicholson responded to the call of a Lexington Avenue resident who reported subjects knocking at his door, then running away.

June 21

9:23 a.m. A Buckingham Drive resident reported a suspicious incident involving a male snooping around the rear door of her residence the day before. The same incident had occurred a week earlier.

12:30 p.m. An armed man robs Yorktown Jewelers of $15,000 worth of cash and jewelry after displaying a gun and tying up the owner. Police responded to the scene. A police dog was also brought in to track where the man had last left off. There were no injuries. The suspect is described as a white male, in his late 50s or early 60s, at medium height and heavy set, gray hair, ruddy complexion. He was wearing white shorts and a blue polo shirt. Investigation continues.  

1:51 p.m. The owner of Finnegan's, 347 Downing Drive, reported to police that two white male teenagers attempted to use a possibly stolen credit card to pay for their bill. The teenagers fled the scene in a silver Scion T/C Coupe.

9:10 p.m. Police report a motor vehicle accident, which occurred on Rt. 202 west bound. Operator of vehicle one states they were trying to make a right turn into 2218 Crompond Rd. when vehicle two attempted to pass them. That's when vehicle two hit vehicle one. Officer Justin Foley responded to the scene. There were no reported injuries. No tickets were issued.

June 22

10 a.m. A Flintlock Way resident reported to police that a fat raccoon was eating the neighbor's cat food. The raccoon was not there at the time, but the resident would call when the animal came back to eat.

9:49 p.m. Police received reports that four youths were smoking marijuana in their green Honda at 3652 Lee Road. Upon arrival, police officer Paul Grieve observed no violations. 

June 23

1:03 a.m. A Park Lane resident reported receiving threatening messages from a male on his voicemail via a blocked phone number. The 16-year-old male believes they are in relation to a recent break up with a girlfriend. Investigation will be continued.

8:11 a.m. Police received reports that an occupied Yorktown School District school bus, with middle school students on board, struck a tree branch smashing the windshield. The incident occurred in front of Peter Pratt's Inn. There were no injuries.

June 24

1:39 a.m. Police arrested 32-year-old Michael J. Camerino of Mohegan Lake, who is charged with disorderly conduct, a penal law violation. At approximately 1:30 a.m. officer Kenneth Sgroi was on patrol on Commerce Street when he observed a male who was allegedly staggering about in the roadway. Upon investigation, officer Sgroi arrested Camerino for allegedly shouting profanities at the police officer while in an intoxicated state. The man was released on $100 bail and is due in court on July 27.

11:15 a.m. A Mohegan Avenue resident reported to police an animal complaint. A possum or ground hog was truck between her deck and her house. Upon investigation, it was determined the animal was sleeping and there was no problem with it.
