Rooftop Solar Installation Makes Somers School First In Nation

More than $27,000 in energy costs are expected to be save by the district.

SOMERS, NY — Somers Middle School became the first school in the state to install solar panels on its roof as part of the governor’s K-Solar program. Official from the New York Power Authority were joined by about 50 eighth-graders, teachers and the superintendent to recognize the achievement.

More than $27,000 in energy costs is expected to be saved, the Journal News said, with carbon reduced by more than 170,000 pounds.

The savings can be tracked on a real-time monitor.
