Scrap Booking: 101

We are going to switch gears a bit from talking about sewing to now chatting about scrap booking!

Scrap booking is what got me into crafting in the first place. It got me hooked on the idea of making something and preserving my memories. I absolutely love going back and looking at my scrapbooks and sharing them with all my family and friends!

The great thing about scrap booking is that you can run into any craft store to get everything you need. Pages can be as simple or intricate as you'd like, it's all up to you! Scrapbooks make wonderful, personal gifts or are a great way to showcase your precious memories!

Before I talk about lots of techniques, I'm going to share with you what I think are the essential basics you'll need to start scrap booking so you can start.

-You'll need a scrapbook of course! A standard scrapbook size is 12x12 and can range in prices. Look for sales or use coupons to get some for $10 or less! You can also buy extra pages to get the most use from one scrapbook.

-Paper! You can buy scrapbook paper individually, this I do when I have a specific event in mind to scrapbook. I love buying the scrapbook packs, the paper in there is all unique but they tend to be complimentary to each other. Don't forget to get solid paper too, you can dress up simple paper or you can simplify a crazy pattern too!

-Scissors and a paper cutter. I love my paper cutter, it makes sure my lines are all super straight. It also cuts down the time I use to cut, I can slice my paper very quickly. But if you don't have a paper cutter, don't worry! To get straight lines whenever you're cutting, just use a ruler to line it up and you'll be just fine. If you have a rotary cutter, you can use that as well on card stock.

-Glue: I prefer glue sticks or glue dots over your regular liquid glue. Sometimes when using regular glue, when it dries it might wrinkle your paper a bit or show where you glued. Glue dots are my favorite and they're photo safe too so you won't have to worry if you decide you need to remove the photo from your page at a later date. You can also give using a glue gun a shot, I have not yet tried this but a friend of mine only uses a glue gun when she scrapbooks!

-Stickers & other embellishments make great details on all your pages. You can get special occasion decorations or just some fun flowers and shapes to add glamour to your page!

-Don't forget to recycle and use other items to make your pages stand out. You can use newspapers, magazines, glitter, rhinestones, twine, rope, old CD's, toole, and so much more! Get creative!

Scrap booking is a great craft to start with if you're just getting into crafting. If you're a huge crafter, give it a shot! You'll love how you can jazz up your pictures and show case your favorite photos in a scrapbook.
