Are you ready to make your first scrapbook page? You have come to the right place!
Scrap booking is a really great way to preserve your memories and showcase the great times you have had. Make sure you have all your necessary items ready (see our Scrap Booking 101 blog post) so we can begin! Today we'll be going over the basics of assembling a page. As we go on in future blogs, we'll talk about some more advanced techniques and tips. But let's start small!
Step 1: Get your pictures from your event. Today I'm working on a scrap book page from a Christmas party. You might have 20 or more pictures from one night, but choose a few to show case. You can choose 1, 3, 5 or more! However many you want to show case is what you can use. Feel free to even do multiple pages for one event!
I'm going to use 3 pictures for this basic page today.
Step 2: Choose your paper. You'll need one 12x12 piece as your main background. Then, chose pages that you can use as a boarder for your pictures and perhaps a piece where you can write captions. If you have a theme in mind, choose pieces that will make your vision come alive.
Step 3: Time to cut your pictures (if you want too!) Don't forget that once you cut, you can't go back, so measure twice before you slice. I personally have a mini paper cutter, you can buy these at most craft stores. If you aren't using one, a ruler, pencil and scissors will work perfectly!
Step 4: Now that your photos are cut, it's time to choose the ones you want matted. It could be one or a few or all of them! What I find to be the easiest, is to first glue your picture (face up) on the page you want it matted on. Utilize your paper so that you'll be able to use it again if space allows. If you're using liquid glue or a glue stick, wait a few minutes to let it dry before you cut again. If you're using glue dots you'll be ready to cut as soon as you mat it. Measure your sides so that they're nice and even, trim the edges and you'll be ready! When you've matted down your selected pictures, you'll be able to start to plot out your page.
To make your edges stand out, use a textured scissor to make them pop!
Step 5: Time to lay out your page! Fool around with it, figure out what you like the most. You can over lap pictures, lay them on a slant, put a picture in each corner. The possibilities are endless! When you have chosen your layout, pick up one picture at a time and glue it down then continue one by one until you're done. That way you're still seeing your layout and can place each picture accordingly. When everything is glued down, you'll be finished!
There you have it! The basics of cutting pictures, matting them and laying out a page. Practice getting used to the steps, you can always go back to your pages and add more details too! Stay tuned to learn more tips, tricks and techniques!
