'Shed The Meds' Drug Drop Off Set For Yorktown
State Assemblyman Kevin Byrne of Mahopac said this was a way to keep prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands.
YORKTOWN, NY — An event where people can drop off unused medication will be held in Yorktown Friday.
State Assemblyman Kevin Byrne of Mahopac will host his annual "Shed the Meds" prescription drug drop-off from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
The event will be at the Jefferson Village Activities Center, 3480 Hill Blvd. in Yorktown Heights.

Byrne said the drug drop-off was being held in conjunction with the Yorktown Police Department, Alliance for Safe Kids and Drug Crisis in Our Backyard.
He said he was proud to be partnering with such great organizations to help protect the community.

“Properly disposing of unwanted or unused medication is important to help keep our environment and families healthy," Byrne said. "Events such as these prevent medication from ending up in the wrong hands and improper disposal, like flushing prescriptions down the toilet, which can lead to pollution of our water supply.”
