Shoplifting, Graffiti Charges Against Westchester Man: PD

Peekskill police arrested the man first, then turned him over to the Yorktown police.

YORKTOWN, NY — A northern Westchester man was accused of stealing spray paint and defacing public property. Yorktown police charged Daniel L. Vines-Mevec, 24, of Buchanan, with petit larceny and making graffiti, misdemeanors.

Police said a report of shoplifting at AC Moore was received around 11:30 a.m. July 15.

Authorities said two people had stolen 16 cans of spray paint, valued at $119.84, and left the store.

A description of the vehicle they used to get away was sent to area police departments.

A short while later, a Peekskill patrol unit spotted the vehicle, which was occupied by Vines-Mevec.

He was arrested and processed by Peekskill police, after which Yorktown officers arrested Vines-Mevec for petit larceny.

The investigation also found that Vines-Mevec spray painted graffiti on the sound barrier on Route 6 in April, police said.

He was processed on the charges and issued an appearance ticket. He was later released on $100 bail.

Vines-Mevec is due back in Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 15.
