Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Grant Tragni of Katonah and Somers High School has been elected as a captain of the football team. A linebacker and long snapper, Tragni was on the team's Black Watch in each of his first three seasons.

He has played 21 games over the past two seasons and has registered nine tackles. A Dean's Honor List student as an industrial and management engineering major, Tragni was Rensselaer's Special Teams Player of the Week once in 2018.

The Engineers are coming off a 10-2 season in which they won the Liberty League title and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament — both for the second straight year. RPI, which advanced to the national quarterfinals and captured ECAC Division III Team of the Year, was ranked 11th in the final 2018 D3football.com Poll and 12th by the American Football Coaches Association.
