Teen Charged with Delinquency After Intentionally Starting Fire: Yorktown Police

For an adult, the charges would have been felony arson and criminal mischief.

YORKTOWN, NY — A 13-year-old boy would be facing two felonies if he had not been charged with juvenile delinquency by Yorktown police.

The Mohegan Lake resident intentionally started a fire by igniting a garbage can on the front porch of a building Nov. 3, police said.

Around 5:46 a.m., police responded to a report of a structure fire at the Fitness Center, located at the Landing Condominium Complex, 209 New Chalet Dr. in the Town of Yorktown.

Police said they determined that the teenager started the fire with an incendiary device and caused it to spread to the building.

He was taken to the Yorktown Police Department where he was arrested and processed on the juvenile delinquency charge.

If he had not been charged as a juvenile, he would have faced third-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief, both felonies.

The teen was issued a juvenile appearance ticket and released to a parent.

He is due to appear in the Westchester County Department of Probation Nov. 9.
