Updates on pending town issues

Updates were provided on filling the board vacancy, Holland Sporting Club clean up, future of Sultana pool, temporary building at Trump Park, Granite Knolls barn, Shallow Creek and emergency generators

Note:  The location for the April 1 board meeting has been changed to Town Hal in order to accommodate the anticipated crowd for the continuation of the convalescent home public hearing.
 
1. Commerce Street Beautification/Garden Club Presentation
The Club is looking for donations in order to carry out its plan for four seasonal plantings in the planters along Commerce Street.
 
2. County taxes
County Legislator Kaplowitz reported that Yorktown’s county tax rate for 2014 will go down 1.28%.

a. In response to questions from Ed Ciffone, the following updates were provided: (See summary for updates on other pending issues)

Town Board vacancy. A special election will be held in November if the board cannot agree on an appointment before then.
 
Sultana pool. The private pool will not open this year due to a lack of funds but Supervisor Grace says the town should not foreclose on the property that owes $60,000+ in back taxes.
 
Holland Sporting Club. Councilman Patel challenged Supervisor Grace’s statement that there are no open DEC violations at the site.
 
Trump Park building
Supervisor Grace said he believes the building should be saved and a new use for it found.
 
b. Susan Siegel (the person writing this summary) questioned why the board was voting on so many resolutions at work sessions which are not televised.
 
3. Appointments/Resignations
The board appointed a new police officer, a Mr. Fortunato.
