Woman Accused Of Stealing Prayer Rugs, Vacuum From Islamic Center

Surveillance video revealed the woman entered the community center and left with the items, police said.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Cortlandt Manor woman faces a felony charge after being accused of stealing from an Islamic community center. Yorktown Police said Christina M. Deagan, 50, of Ernest Avenue in Cortlandt Manor, was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.

Police said they received a call about stolen property from an employee of the Hudson Valley Islamic Community Center at 3680 Lexington Ave. in Mohegan Lake around 5:52 p.m. March 14.

The responding officer’s investigation found that a vacuum cleaner and four prayer rugs had been stolen.

Surveillance video from the scene revealed that Deagan had entered the building around 9 a.m. Feb. 28 and took the items, police said.

Deagan voluntarily appeared at police headquarters March 22 at which point she was arrested.

She was arraigned and released on $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court April 3.
