Woman Leaves Dog In Locked Car: Yorktown Police
On an 80-degree day, the temperature inside a car can go up 20 degrees in 20 minutes.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Katonah woman was charged with leaving her dog locked inside a car July 5. Yorktown Police said Lynda O’Hanlon, 66, of Diane Court in Katonah, allegedly violated town code by confining a dog inside a motor vehicle.
According to police, around 1:55 p.m., a call was received from the Triangle Shopping Center reporting that a dog was locked inside a car.
An officer responded and saw a tri-colored bassett hound inside the vehicle the windows closed

The officer was able to identify the car and dog owner at the scene.
At 2:19 p.m., O’Hanlon was issued an appearance ticket and was processed at the scene.

She is scheduled to answer the charge August 8 in Yorktown Court.
According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, when the outside temperature is 80 degrees, within 10 minutes the temperature inside a closed car can reach 99 degrees. After 20 minutes, it can reach 109 degrees.
The temperature in Yorktown on July 5 around 2 p.m., according to Weather Underground, was a little above 80 degrees.
