Yorktown Cuts Ties With GOP District Leader Who Made Racial Slur
The town said it would end a partnership with a nonprofit that organizes the San Gennaro feast.

YORKTOWN, NY — Members of the Yorktown Town Board have said they will cut ties with the Republican district leader who admitted he made a racist comment about a town councilman.
Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater wrote to Tom Pomposello Jr. Wednesday and said the town would end a partnership with him and CCM of Westchester, a nonprofit that is used to organize the San Gennaro Feast.
The letter said the town board has a zero-tolerance approach to racism and hate in the community and said Pomposello had publicly admitted "to casting racial slurs at a member of the Town Board.

"Your conduct has become a stain on our community," the letter said. "Therefore, we are requesting that you divest yourself from the San Gennaro Feast as its organizer, promoter and end any involvement you may have with this event."
Slater was joined in the letter by town councilmembers Alice Roker, Tom Diana and Ed Lachterman.

Councilman Vishnu Patel, who was the object of Pomposello's racism, did not sign the letter.
Pomposello was heard in a video originally posted on the Yorktown Republican Party's Facebook page saying a vulgar term followed by a racial slur aimed at someone of Middle Eastern descent during an election night party.
Yorktown News first published the video Monday.
Pomposello, who was the town committee district leader for the GOP, at first said he didn't remember saying what was on the video, but then admitted it was him.
He subsequently resigned as district leader.
The letter to Pomposello from Slater and the Town Board also said it was also brought to the town's attention that CCM of Westchester "has apparently failed to file the required annual report for charitable organizations since 2017. Failure to comply with these important legal requirements could potentially place the Town in legal jeopardy and risk."
